Starting point was in Wels, then we visited Menton in France, travelled to Nice and Grasse and crossed the Verdon Canyon towards Spain. Next we moved on to Barcelona and Valencia and further south to “Las Negras”. After exploring the Portuguese coast we were faced with bad weather in the north of Spain and decided on a more extensive route change to travel to Croatia and Bosnia before heading home.
6 WEEKS ON 6 SQUARE METERS
It’s midnight when we get into our VW bus and look at each other. The last of our things are packed, even the most important one, our coffee machine, is not being left behind. We smile at each other, still in disbelief that this will be our home for the next six weeks.
What we don't know yet is that there are many ups and downs on the road ahead of us. From breaking into our own bus because the dog locked us out and a mechanic who managed to drive our temporary home into a wall, when all he was meant to do was fix the breaks, to having our shoes stolen by a stray dog, seeing untouched nature and spending evenings watching empty beaches from the comfort of our little 'bedroom' with a glass of wine.
You really can’t take much along with you, but nevertheless we keep realizing that we packed too much stuff. We already have all the things we really need. And the most wonderful thing about our journey is that we can fit right into the landscape and find a place to stay everywhere we go.
The six square meters we have only offer limited storage space, which leads to an organized chaos that we will probably only be able to figure out over the course of many more travels. Even though our van is not very big, it's perfect for cuddling on chilly evenings and enjoying the nature around us on a hot day, like a private front lawn right by the beach.
We're still in awe of how we managed “6 weeks without a single fight” by the time we head back home.
